dc.description	A. Melianthus major L. 1. Raceme (small specimen). 2. Leaf (small), st. intrapetiolar stipule of next lower leaf; b. bud of next higher leaf, enclosed in stipule of developed leaf. 3. Flower, p. petals, just protruding between the two lateral sepals. 4. Flower, the calyx cut away completely, p. petals; n. nectary. 5. Diagram of flower, os. odd sepal (spurred), standing in nature opposite the bract, owning to a twist in the pedicel. 6. Capsule. 7. Ripe capsule of somewhat different shape, one compartment cut open and the wing forced down. 8. Seed in section. B. M. comosus Vahl, from the Karoo. Flower, s. lateral sepals; p. petals.
