Photographs and information on a bell on the Klein Parys wine estate near Paarl. The wine estate Klein Parys in Paarl is home to a very uncommon type of bell. Up to now it seems to be the only type of bell that has been made in the U.S.A. The maker's name does not appear on the bell itself, as is usually done with bronze bells, but on the yoke from which the bell is hung. On the yoke we find
THE C.S. BELL CO HILLSBORO, O. while the number 2 appears in the middle. At the bottom of the iron yoke one can read CRYSTAL CLEAR and on the reverse side CUP RIGHT. The company to which these inscriptions refer is situated in Hillsboro, Ohio. Because of the number 2, the bell was probably made shortly after 1894 when the company emerged from a former partnership. Similar bells have been found in the estate Montpellier, Tulbagh and in Zonquadrift, Riebeek Kasteel.
