A surprising building in the town is the Methodist Church where we find two bells, one in a detached bell tower next to the church, the other in a large bell tower next to the Methodist School. The parish was established in 1834 and had its first services in a wine cellar. From 1860 onwards services were held in the church building that was recently restored as mentioned on a slab on the bell tower. In the tower hangs a fairly large bell that however doesn’t show any indication of the founder, only of the company that has been responsible for the delivery. On a small plate on the knee of the bell one reads MADE FOR JAMES ROBERTSON & CO CAPE TOWN This text is exactly the same as on the bells in the Christ the King Anglican Church in Claremont and in the Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk in Malgas.en_ZA
