| dc.description.abstract | Currently the City Hall Tower of Parow houses 3 bells that are sitting in a frame that clearly provided room for a much larger chime. According to information on http://www.towerbells.org/data/ZAPARWCH.HTM there was a chime-sized collection of 14 bells. The whole instrument was provided by the German Foundry Petit & Edelbrock, Gescher that also made the bell at the Moravian Chapel in Cape Town. The 14 bells were still in the frame in 1978. The openings for the hanging of the other bells are clearly visible in the frame. What happened afterwards is unknown but should have been a worry of the city council.
The three remaining bells are well made following the same pattern. Just below the shoulder is a decorative band that is repeated below the inscription band. However, none of the remaining bells has an inscription in it. A few more moulding wires can be found above the sound bow and on the lip. | |
