Hermanus, Anglican Church. In the centre of Hermanus lies the Anglican Church of Saint Peter the Fisherman. The foundation stone of this church was laid on 26 February 1933. When one stands on the street side before the church, one notices a nicely built tower with louvers near the top. Contrary to what one expects, the tower does not house a bell. Instead, there hangs a bell high up below the roof on the east side of the church. Because of its high position it was impossible to gain full information on the decorations on the bell. Below the shoulder are two moulding wires but seemingly without any text in between. There are two more moulding wires above the sound bow and a single one at the lip of the bell. The only decoration that could be seen partially, is a small round emblem in the middle of the waist that reminds us strongly of the founder’s emblem of Bardwell. The latter consists of a circular crown of leaves with in the middle references to the founders. The bell shows signs of corrosion, probably due to its position near the ocean.
