Corolla, laid open, with stamens and style. 4. Ovary, transv. section, 2-celled. 5. Ovary, long. section, one pendulous ovule in each cell. 6. Fruit (two mericarps), side view. 7. One seed, the shell of the mericarp removed, the embryo shining through (side view). 8. Long. section of mericarp. 125. Verbenaceae-Stilbeae. B. Stilbe ericoides L. 1. Medium-sized plant in flower, visited by a wasp, Odynerus. From the Cape Flats. 2. Stem and leaves. 3. Flower laid open, without the calyx. 4. Ovary, long. section, showing one abortive and one fertile cell. 126. Myoporaceae. C. Oftia africana Bocq. 1. Short piece of flowering twig, with ripe fruit. 2. Calyx, split open. 3. Corolla, split through centre of lower lobe. 4. Pistil. 5. Ovary, long. section, showing two ovules in each cell. 6. Transverse sect. of ovary. 7. Fly, visiting flower. 8. Stone of drupe. 9. Transverse section of stone.
