dc.description	Fam. 1. Typhaceae. A. Typha capensis Rohrb. 1. Rootstock with young suckers. 2. Inflorescence with uppermost leaf of the stem, two bracts (deciduous), complete ♀ inflorescence and small piece of ♂ inflorescence, the latter at the stage when just beginning to shed its pollen. 3. ♀ flower, with spathulate bract [mostly absent], similar in shape to the stigma, and numerous hairs occupying the place of staminodes. 4. ♂ flower, showing 4 bract-like staminodes and 3 stamens, the filaments slightly cohering at their base. The number of stamens varies from 1 to 5. Fam. 5. Scheuchzeriaceae. C. Triglochin bulbosum L., with one raceme of buds, one of open flowers and one of young fruits. Fam. 6. Hydrocharitaceae. B. Lagarosiphon muscoides Harv. (The figures after Harvey). 1. ♀ plant, small, from shallow water, the flowers floating on the water. 2. Small twig of ♂ plant with two spikes of flowers.
