This index describes the Pieter le Fras Nortier collection which consists mainly of correspondence between P.L. Nortier and members of his family while he was studying abroad. It also includes articles on his work, a CV, a report by Nortier on erosion in the Clanwilliam area and information about the Nature Reserve Otterdam. The latter was later converted to the Nortier Experimental Farm. Dr. P.L. Nortier was a medical doctor and botanist. His research on Rooibos tea lead it to become a major industry. Dr. Nortier also developed the Clanor seedless orange. He received Honorary Doctorates from the Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town. The public library in Clanwilliam was named after him, and C.L. Leipoldt his friend of many years.en_ZA
