The account begins on 27th October 1884 with an account of Rev. Dundas departure from Shotts, Lanarkshire (Scotland) and the last entry is dated 14th March 1885 at the Blythwood Institute, Fingoland. He describes the voyage out aboard the Hawarden Castle, arrival at Cape Town, a stay in Stellenbosch and the journey to the Eastern Cape. From pages 81 - 285 he gives detailed accounts of his visits to the missions at Lovedale, Burnshill, Pirie, the meeting of the Presbyteries of Free & Presbyterian Churches in King William’s Town on 7th January 1885 (where spiritual and financial matters were discussed), Emguali, Mbulu, Futura, Columba & Ndhlambi, Duffbank or Idutywa and Main Tembuland. Journeying on horseback, Dundas travelled extensively visiting the missionaries and mission stations giving detailed accounts of their work. He gives sensitive accounts of the customs of the people including the difficulty of polygamy for converts. He preached at several places and mentions speaking from Rev. Tiyo Soga’s pulpit at Emguali and meeting his nephew William Soga, a teacher at the school. There are three pen-and-ink sketches, two of churches and the third of the Headman’s House at Caba. Reverend Dundas appears to have returned to the mission field in South Africa and died in Pirie in 1922 -- Information from Publisher’s webpage.
