Northern Suburbs, Parow, Tabernacle of Praise

Abstract

The Tabernacle of Praise Oasis International has a surprising set of 3 bells in a very neat bell tower that sticks out of the building above the main entrance. The original function of the church is still unknown to us. At the moment the church is situated in an economically depressed area. The mere fact that the church has three bells suggests that the building used to belong to a mainstream denomination either as a church or as a community building. The three bells have very similar shapes and are all made by the Petit & Fritsen foundry that we encountered at a variety of locations in the Western Cape. Unfortunately, the bells are hanging too high to be able to see more than the name of the foundry, its location and emblem. The decorations are identical to those on the bells in the NGK in Bellville North and the NGK in Kenridge. All of them have been supplied by the Suid Afrikaanse Orrelbouers.
