dc.description | The St. Saviour's Anglican Church in Claremont a Sophie Gray church, on the Main Road has a remarkable bell tower with three bells that hang in a bell-cote with two layers. The smallest of the three bells is very plain and hangs in the upper niche. Below it there are two bells each within its own niche.
The heavier of the two bells hangs in the right niche and suffers from corrosion on the reverse side. The decorations on the two lower bells are the same. In between two pairs of two moulding wires one reads the inscription
CAST BY GILLETT BLAND & CO CROYDON 1881
There are three more wires on the sounding bow and two on the lip. There is still a need to collect the physical and acoustical data of the bells. | en_ZA |
