The St. Thomas Anglican Church at Rondebosch is a Sophie Gray Church and was established in 1864. The bell is situated in a bell-cote and can hardly be investigated. Moreover, the bell is suffering from serious corrosion.
Just above the sound bow there seems to be a founder’s mark that consists of a circular emblem and a date that is broken up in two times two digits on both sides of the emblem. O The digits on the left look like 19. Similar inscriptions appear on the Taylor bells in the City Hall and on bells from Whitechapel. However, the corrosion makes an accurate reading impossible. There is still a need to collect the physical and acoustical data of the bell.
