Drawing of the lime-kiln of Abraham Zacharias Auret at Muizenberg (from information supplied by Willem Frederick Auret), depicting detail of a man with a mask, sieving the lime, an iron door (sealed with clay), mixture of shells and coal (1 part coal to 20 parts shell), slangboschjes, flat iron tyre bars, wood fire to ignite the charge and lime raked on to smooth floor.
