dc.description	134. Plantaginaceae. A. Plantago carnosa Lam. 1. Plant from seashore near Vishoek. The upper flowers in their first stage, the anthers not developed. 2. Flower in its second stage, the stigma shrivelled and anthers fully developed. 135. Rubiaceae. Tribe Galieae. B. Galium asperum Thunb. 1. Small piece of plant. 2. Flower. 3. Fruit, consisting of two mericarps, the shaded part represents the spongy tissue. 4. Mericarp in transverse section. C. G. tomentosum Thunb. Fruit in long. section, showing the spongy tissue on the inner face of the mericarps. Peduncle much longer in nature (20/1). Tribe Anthospermeae. D. Anthospermum aethiopicum L. 1. Twig of female plant with numerous flowers open. 2. Pistillate flower. 3. Twig of male plant. 4. Staminate flower. 5. Fruit, consisting of two connate nutlets.
