dc.description135. Rubiaceae. A. Gardenia Thunbergia L. fil. 1. Flowering twig. 2. Corolla, mouth of tube and limb laid open. 3. Fruit, a woody berry, and young buds. 4. Fruit (young) in transverse section. 5. Transverse section of seed. 6. Hawk-moth, Chaerocampa Idrieus, from East London. This moth can reach the nectar only when plenty of it has accumulated in the tube of the flower. Other moths with a longer proboscis are probably more efficient visitors. B. Vangueria infausta Burch. 1. Portion of inflorescence. 2. Flower, long. section. 3. Transverse sect. of ovary. 4. Floral diagram. 5. Fruiting twig, with spots of Aecidium vangueriae on the leaves. 6. Fruit, skin and pulp removed from the upper part.
