Fruiting capitulum, the pappus expanded. 5. Pale of flower. 6. Ripe achene. D. Arctotis acaulis L. 1. Capitulum with visiting beetle, Heterochelus dissidens. 2. Achene. 3. Achene in transv. section, showing the three enlarged ribs of the pericarp. E. Arctotis acaulis L. A darker variety (wild plant).
